        Xi Graphics is pleased to announce the latest updated servers for
the Summit 2.2 product line. This version corrects a few RENDER extension
problems, and adds Full Scene Anti-Aliasing support (on certain hardware).

        Since no announcements were made for the previous v2.2 updates,
the following summarizes the changes since the initial v2.2 release:

2.2-5 10/1/2002

- New support for Radeon 9000

- The Radeon 8500 and new Radeon 9000 drivers have been moved out of
  the Workstation class (WX) and into the Desktop (DX) class.

- corrected RENDER problems with gnome2 that would cause corrupted
  icons, and sometimes a crash.

- Added Full Scene Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) for specific hardware

  - FSAA is supported on 3Dlabs Wildcat and ATI Radeon hardware

  - On Radeon hardware, FSAA is implemented by Supersampling (SS),
    which is exposed to applications as a non-conformant multisample
    capable visual.

    There are restrictions on the size of windows that can be
    supersampled. If you wish to use FSAA, you will need to be
    running at 1024x768 or lower.

    If you exceed this size, then SS will be implemented in software.

  - On Wildcat Hardware, FSAA is implemented via multisampling, and
    exposed as a multisample capable visual. On a 64MB framebuffer,
    1024x768 is the maximum FSAA capable resolution.

    The sampling size is configured via Xsetup. The default is 4X.
    The following configurations are possible:

    Multisampling = Disabled;
    Multisampling = 2X;
    Multisampling = 4X;
    Multisampling = 8X;

  - To enable FSAA as a default visual, set and export the following
    before starting your application:

    export OGL_FSAA=1

    This will arrange for the FSAA visuals to be listed first, and an
    FSAA visual will be set as the default visual. This is for
    applications that merely grab the default visual and use it. So,
    in reality, it is a hint.

    For example, to run Quake3 with FSAA:

     1. Make sure your resolution is at 1024x768 and that you
        have at least 64MB of framebuffer memory
     2. export OGL_FSAA=1
     3. quake3

  - There are some memory requirements. Normally with
    supersampling you have an extra sample/depth/stencil buffer. So
    if you are running 32bpp, then SS will cost you 32 bytes extra per
    pixel on your window (on top of the backbuffer).

2.2-4 9/20/2002

- corrects a startup problem with the permedia3/permedia4 cards.

- corrects a bus enumeration problem (also in xsvc) that affected MX
  servers. In some cases, only 2 cards would be detected, even though
  more would be installed. XSVC 3.0-36 or higher is also required to
  complete this fix.

- corrects a problem with creating custom colormaps in a psuedocolor
  visual with RENDER enabled. This would also affect Overlay visuals.

2.2-3 9/18/2002

- corrects a potential core when resolution switching

- corrects a problem with menus in 'O'

2.2-2 9/16/2002

- Corrects a few problems with the 2.2-1 release:

  - corrects a potential core when using certain RENDER modes.

  - corrects broken icons/fonts on cards that support parts of RENDER
    in hardware (like the Radeon and Radeon 8500)

  - correct some XME issues

  - runs ldconfig on Linux boxes for 2D only servers now as well
    (XME).

  - corrects some Savage IX/MX DMA problems.
