Existing Summit users can upgrade to this release for free. The updated servers can be found at: Linux DX ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/Summit/linux/desktop/ Linux LX ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/Summit/linux/laptop/ Linux MX ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/Summit/linux/multihead/ Linux WX ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/Summit/linux/workstation/ Solaris DX ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/Summit/solaris/desktop/ Solaris LX ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/Summit/solaris/laptop/ Solaris MX ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/Summit/solaris/multihead/ Solaris WX ftp://ftp.xig.com/pub/Summit/solaris/workstation/ The following is a snippet from the release notes describing new support, enhanced support and bug fixes present in this release: 2.2-12 (all packages) [2.2.2-46d/2.2.2-46 xs1.9 (2.2-12) 09/09/2003] - New support Panasonic Toughbook CF-50 (LX) Intel 852/855 support (LX) Fujitsu Lifebook P5010 (LX) Fujitsu Lifebook N3010 (LX) Advantec PCM-9372 VIA Eden SBC with S3 ProSavage display core (DX/LX) S3 Savage/IX, 8MB board added to LX product (LX/DX) PowerNotebooks PowerPro C 3:16 (LX) PowerNotebooks PowerPro IV:28 (LX) PowerNotebooks PowerPro M:516 (LX) Colorgraphic Xentera GT 4 (MX) - Support for the Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 and CF-72 moved into standard LX product - General performance improvements for all cards with OpenGL immediate mode, and even more significant performance increases on 3dlabs Wildcat VP cards. - Fujitsu Lifebook P-5010 (and Intel 852 laptop graphics chips in general) notes: - The 'Simultaneous' SimulView mode where both LCD and external display are used at once may not work properly. We cannot address this problem due to limitations in the hardware documentation. Instead, use the DualView Zoom mode to display the same desktop on both monitors. - If you select the 1152x864 resolution in Xsetup as well as the LCD native 1280x768 resolution, the desktop will pan vertically. If you do not want the desktop to pan, do not select the 1152x864 resolution. - Advantec PCM-9372 VIA Eden SBC note: - If you are using the stock RedHat 9.0 kernel, you cannot use the precompiled module that is installed by default with the xsvc RPM, you must compile manually. - fixed bug in Xv that caused corrupted display when expanding the Xv window beyond certain dimensions - fixed bug on S3 chips that could cause corruption when using monochrome pixmaps beyond certain sizes - Updates to depth/stencil buffer sometimes were omitted if no colorbuffer was enabled for writing. This could cause a wide variety of drawing problems, depending on the application. - corrected problem in the font pattern cache that could cause a server crash in certain circumstances - Using specific fonts on newer linux distributions could sometimes cause a crash in the font renderer. - corrected a problem with the Fujitsu Lifebook N-3010 that resulted in locks during initialization - drawing XYbitmap of certain sizes would fail to render correctly. - the ability to support more than 128 client connections to the Xserver was added. This is configurable in graphical Xsetup. The maximum number of clients is also limited by system settings, e.g. the maximum number of open file descriptors supported. - Neverwinter Nights - bug that caused Neverwinter Nights to core when using compressed textures was corrected. - shadows on r200 based cards now work due to stencil/depth buffer bug fix mentioned above - There is still an issue with environment mapping. If your character's textures show alot of flashing, disable environment mapping in the game - 3Dlabs VPU occasionally applied wrong lighting if more than 4 lights were enabled. - With AMBIENT/AMBIENT_DIFFUSE color material and separate specular lighting only the red color channel was updated properly. - Under certain cicumstances the edge flag was not updated properly. - Removed the GL_EXT_vertex_weighting extension. - Added AMD 3DNow! optimized support for the transformation and lighting path for Athlon processors and others. - Fixed color material support for 3dlabs Oxygen GVX1 driver - OpenGL tracing support added to OpenGL libraries. This allows developers to see the GL calls made and their arguments. To enable this set the environment variable: export OGL_TRACE=1 then run your application. - input devices - added support for various laptop touchscreen controllers to LX - usarsc (Fieldworks/Kontron Series I and II) TSC/mouse controllers - fidp (Fujitsu Input Devices) controllers (Panasonic Toughbook CF-28, CF-72) - gunze (Panasonic Toughbook CF-27) serial. - new support for eTurboTouch touchscreen controller - a problem with buttons (like scroll wheels) on extended devices configured in pointer mode might not work. - New DCF file for USB mice that allows device opens to fail. This is most useful for laptops that are sometimes used with and without an external USB mouse attached. - Portuguese keyboard was mispeled. - some fixes to various keyboard definitions (euro, etc) - new support that allows configuring special keys seen on some keyboards, like 'WWW', 'Play', etc... Graphical Xsetup will allow you to 'grab' up to 32 custom keys. Once the keys are grabbed and the configuration is saved, Accelerated-X should be restarted to start recognizing the keys. A custom key will not have a keysym binding by default. To bind a keysym, the keycodes must be mapped to keysyms using a utility such as 'xmodmap'. xmodmap can be called from the 'xinitrc' script or in the system dependant 'Xmodmap' file to map the keysyms when Accelerated-X starts. The keycode for the custom key can be found by pressing the custom key in a 'xev' event window. If Xsetup does not detect that any custom keys are being pressed, it is likely that the keyboard requires another utility to generate a special initialization sequence to activate the extended keys. Currently, this feature is only useful on Linux. - xsvc - support for Intel 855, 865, and 875 bridges. Thank you for choosing Accelerated X!
