Xi Graphics is pleased to announce a BETA 2 release of an amd64/x86_64 Linux and Solaris 10 (GA/U1) packages for various Matrox cards.
The main difference from the beta 1 packages is that 32b OpenGL is now supported, and Linux support has been added.
Beta 2 Release 4/10/2006
- Add OpenGL support for Solaris, and provide both Silver and Platinum versions for Linux.
- Under Solaris, SSE2 and SSE support is now provided for OpenGL, and will be used on Athlon64 and Opteron systems in preference to 3DNow, if the processor supports it.
- added fix that might cause DFP's to not be initialized properly.
- The Solaris xsvc package also includes a 32bit module, so you can switch your boot from 32b to 64b and vice versa and your server should still run.
Of course with linux in order to do this, you need to compile a new kernel, and then a new xsvc. The linux guys seem to like it that way.
Note, currently OpenGL support is limited to 32b applications. 64b OpenGL support will be provided once it is complete.
During installation, no attempt is made to move 64bit OpenGL libraries out of the way. This means that when running a 64b OpenGL application, it will use the system supplied OpenGL libraries (typically Mesa). Therefore performance may not be what is expected, and direct rendering will not work.
We do support Accelerated Indirect OpenGL rendering, so you may find that even when using Mesa libraries with your 64b application, you will still see some hardware acceleration. Your milage may vary.

These packages contain beta AMD64/x86_64 support for various Matrox cards for use with Linux (2.6.11+ kernels) and Solaris 10 (GA or GA U1) running on Intel EM64T or AMD Opteron/Athlon64 systems running in 64bit mode.

xsvc version 4.0-3 or better is required to use this server, and is included in the same directory that this package is located in. Do not use xsvc 3.x - it will not work with 64 bit kernels, or these packages.
It is assumed that you have some experience with installing and configuring Accelerated-X. If not, please see the following files for information on the general process of installing and configuring Accelerated-X.

- disable any graphical login managers - install the xsvc package, and reboot (with graphical logins still disabled). - Install the Summit package - run Xsetup and configure your card, monitor, mouse and keyboard - test the server 'Xaccel'. Use CTL-ALT-BS to exit. - re-enable graphical logins (/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e)
A demo license is supplied which will cause the server to terminate after about 25 minutes.
If you need more time to evaluate the server, please contact sales@xxxxxxx and request an Evaluation license. If you wish to purchase a license, please go to:
Please report any feedback on this driver (good or bad) to support@xxxxxxxx If you are reporting a problem, please include Xsupport output (/usr/openwin/lib/AcceleratedX/bin/Xsupport).
