MOBILE RADEON vx RADEON Chips
Basically the laptop version of an ATI chip is almost the same as the desktop version from a graphics stqndpoint. The laptop version is designed for low power usage, and also has lvds support for panels used on laptops. The laptop versions (usually designated with an "M" number, such as "M9") usually have TV out supported as a second channel.
Because of the low power feature of the 'M" chips, some manufacturers of multi-head, multi-chip cards have utilized them when there is a lot of hardware on a card - such as two or four graphics chips plus associated output channel chips. Thus, the HX and MX series have support for these chips.
Additionally, specialty cards, such as SBCs, often utilize the low power version of ATI chips, and support for these cards are handled in the Custom Series.
