Multi-head/chip Cards
Some graphics cards have one graphics chip but can drive more than one display. Some of these cards may drive two, three, or even four displays from one graphics chip (using two, three or four display transmitters). Other cards have more than one graphics chip, with each chip capable of driving one or more display transmitter channels. These cards are often referred to as "Multi-head cards," where a "head" refers to a graphics chip. Unfortunately, the term head has also come to mean a display device such as a CRT monitor or LCD panel. For purposes of describing Summit Series capabilities, we will refer to cards that have more than one graphics chip as a multi-head or a multi-chip card, or a multi-head/chip card.
Most cards with only one chip are normally supported in the Summit Desktop (DX) Series, even though some of them can drive two displays. Some single chip cards in the Workstation (WX) Series can drive up to four displays (the Matrox Parhelia QID for example).
Cards listed below are cards that have multiple graphics chips and require the Multi-head (MX) Series. The MX Series is also required if more than one graphics card is in a system.
